The Mekong is home to the world’s largest freshwater fishery, and is the second-most bio diverse river on the planet – with 1,200 native fish species, and new species discovered every year. The river is a crucial source of food and income for local communities.
CAI BE – SADEC
Early in the morning, departure for Cai Be. By mid-morning, board the private Junk with welcome fresh cotton towels. Visit of Cai Be colorful floating market, cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables…
Cruising further to Vinh Long, passing beautiful landscapes along Dong Phu canal, Binh Hoa Phuoc and An Binh islands famous for their fruit orchards. Visit of a fruit plantation. We will cross the Co Chien river then cruise under the spectacular My Thuan Bridge. A visit will be made at Dinh Tan Hoa ancient provincial house built by the French some hundred fifty years ago, located on the river banks. We will then proceed the cruise up-stream on the Tien Giang River, one of the two large arms of the Mekong. The water way is getting narrower while the banks are appearing more attractive with beautiful landscapes. Passing by several traditional bricks and tiles factories along the river, we will have an interesting visit at one of them. Sa Dec town will appear like a little “Venice” with numerous narrow canals. You will disembark for a very interesting visit at a beautiful ancient house (Nha Co) dating from the early 19th century, home of Ong Huynh Thuy Le, former “lover” of famous French novelist Marguerite Duras. End of the trip.
While cruising, the crew will serve fresh coconut and local fruits.
