Day 1: Hanoï

Day 1: Hanoï

Capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Hanoi, whose name means "beyond the river", was founded in 1010 on the right bank of the Red River. It then bore the name Dai La "the great citadel" before being renamed Thang Long, the "Dragon taking flight", as the country emerged from more than 10 centuries of Chinese rule.

 

Arrived at Hanoi Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and driver who will accompany you to the hotel in the city center. Please note that the room will only be available after 13:30. Your guide will accompany you to the Confucius Temple founded in 1070, which will later become the first Vietnamese university. The temple is also known as the Temple of Literature. We will then offer you a massage session to relax after your long journey. Welcome lunch in a typical restaurant.

 

You will continue your walk to visit another French district south of the old town. You will discover the soul of Hanoi in a non tourist area and as interesting as the "old quarter". Hom market stalls are good for spices, fresh herbs, exotic vegetables and fruits, flowers and especially smiles. A short break to have a coffee or just fruit on the sidewalk, alongside the locals. You will then go for a walk in the neighborhood of 36 guilds and guilds to discover the daily life and the charm of Hanoi. Unmissable places: the Dong Xuan Grand Market, the old Ma May house ... Day 2: Hanoï

Day 2: Hanoï

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up to visit the capital and its thousand-year history, starting with the Governor General's Palace in Indochina and the one-pillar pagoda. You will discover a Hanoi outside tourist areas, with the French Concession that extends from the mausoleum of the presidential palace to the old bridge Paul Doumer, witness of the power of French civilization in the works of peace and symbol of peace. unity, endurance and Vietnamese patriotism. A walk on this bridge now called "Long Bien" will allow you not only to admire a bridge built by the Eiffel Company, but also to observe the surrounding effervescence of the capital.

 

You will then go around the West Lake through the presidential district, visit an old pagoda and the market Buoi ornamental plants. Lunch at a local restaurant with Hanoi specialties such as Bun Cha (fresh rice noodles with pork skewers) and Nems. In the afternoon, you will visit the Museum of Ethnography as an introduction to your discovery of northern Vietnam. A puppet show on the water will close this first day full of discoveries.

 

Departure by train at 21:10 for Lao Cai. Night on the train in first class (compartment of 4 luxury soft beds, air conditioning).

Breakfast at the train station before heading en route to Muong Khuong Market (Sunday morning). This market, which is on the border with China, is much less touristy than the Bac Ha market. You will meet several ethnic groups: H'mongs, Daos, Tays ... who come down once a week, not only to exchange goods but also to meet. It's a meeting at the end of the world in a beautiful wilderness, and a real party for them. You will visit a village of colorful H'mongs before leaving for Sapa. Sapa, the old settlers' station, is steeped in history and is a region bathed in the wilderness. Free evening and night in Sapa.

Day 4: Sapa – Suoi Ho - Ma Cha – Ta Phin (B, L)

Day 4: Sapa – Suoi Ho - Ma Cha – Ta Phin (B, L)

After breakfast, departure for a beautiful hike of 2 hours in mountain villages, discover a nice little hamlet of H'Mongs Noirs of Suoi Ho, and then Ma Cha and Lu Khau. Breakfast in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will continue your walk for 2 hours to the village of Ta Phin, inhabited by Red Daos and Black H'Mongs. You will be received at the inhabitant to share a moment of their daily life. The family will prepare a bath with medicinal herbs to relax after a day of trekking.

Return to Sapa by car, then transfer at night to Lao Cai train station to take the night train to Hanoi. Night on board.

Arrive in Hanoi around 5am, tour of the city to visit the flower market and the flag raising ceremony at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Then leave for Hai Phong (around 10am). Fast boat crossing to Cat Ba Island. Arrival at Phu Long around 10:45 am, welcome by our driver, for a 50 minute ride through the national park to the center of Cat Ba. Visit the local market, transfer to our junk.

 

Your cruise will begin at 12:15 at Ben Beo Harbor on Cat Ba Island where you will board. After a welcome drink, the junk will cross the first floating fishing village and then weave through Lan Ha Bay. After an hour of sailing, you will drop anchor. A delicious lunch based on seafood will be served. You will then descend on a floating house of fishermen to discover their life and visit the fishpond below their house.

 

Back on board, a small coffee or tea will be offered by the crew, followed by a moment of relaxation on the deck or in the lounge while the crew stop the engine and set sail to navigate the Ong Cam Bay . A boat trip or kayak to the CA tunnel will be offered. Once through the tunnel, you will come to a lake surrounded by cliffs. The junk will move away from the tourist spots to anchor for dinner and overnight in the bay.

Day 6: Cat Ba – Hai Phong – Ninh Binh (B, L)

Day 6: Cat Ba – Hai Phong – Ninh Binh (B, L)

For the brave, it is possible to attend the sunrise if there is no fog. After breakfast, you can discover all the beauty and charm of Lan Ha Bay, with its small wild beaches, tunnels and floating fishing villages. You will descend on the boat for a ride rowed to the CA tunnel. Return to the junk and continue the cruise, among thousands of cliffs emerging from the waves. You will feel like you're in a world of fossilized animals millions of years ago. The junk will stop at a floating village of fishermen, who have resided there for generations. You will visit some fish ponds below their house, the opportunity to discover the way of life of the villagers. Stop at the very beautiful and wild beach Ba Trai Dao for a swim. Return of cabins around 10am.

 

Lunch on board before disembarking at 12 o'clock on the island of Cat Ba. Free time to discover the island before taking the hydrofoil at 14h from Cat Ba to Hai Phong. The driver will wait for you to drive to Halong Bay, crossing the Red River Delta. Overnight at the hotel in Ninh Binh.

After breakfast, you will take a bike ride: crossing villages and rice paddies to Thung Nang (less touristy than Tam Coc). You will take the boat alongside the villagers for a nice walk on the river. You will cycle to the Emerald Pagoda. Back to Tam Coc. Free lunch. The driver will then take you to visit the Hang Mua cave, with a magnificent panoramic view of the area, before going to Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of the country in the 10th century, where are the two temples of King Dinh and King The previous one. You will discover the characteristics of a very prosperous era in Vietnamese history. Return to Hanoi at the end of the afternoon. Night in Hanoi.

Hue is an ancient land, a poetic region and well known for its architectural ensemble of palaces, citadels, temples, pagodas and tombs of the Kings and Lords Nguyen, built in the middle of the magnificent landscapes that offer the two banks of the Perfume River . Hue is not only known as the "Wonderful Capital", it is also known as "Capital of Buddhism", according to the fervent piety of the Lords Nguyen to whom we owe more than 200 years of construction in Cochin China (1558-1775). Recognized as a world material cultural heritage, Hue is the delicate and artistic fusion of two distinct cultural trends: folk culture and dynastic culture.

 

Transfer to the airport for early morning flight to Hue. Arrival in Hue, welcome by the guide and driver, transfer to the hotel.

After breakfast, you will start the day with a visit to Dong Ba Market. Then leave for the Perfume River, embark aboard a sampan for an excursion on the Perfume River and visit the pagoda of the Celestial Lady (Thien Mu) - a religious construction of the oldest and most beautiful of Hue with its remarkable storied tower reminiscent of present Buddhism. You will disembark at Thuy Bieu village where you will be warmly welcomed by our friend, Mrs. Loan. You will take a bike ride in the village to discover the orchards, and can testify to the kindness of local people. Mrs. Loan will then teach you how to prepare some typical dishes of Hue, which you will then enjoy. In the afternoon, visit the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang, in typical Sino-Vietnamese style. Departure at 7:30. You will go to the "sacred heart", the ancient capital of the kingdom of Champa (4th century) My Son, whose monuments currently visible date mostly from the 9th-12th century. Enclosed in a natural amphitheater of hills covered with lush vegetation, symbol of the feminine nature, this site is the contact between the world of men and the cosmic world. Transfer to the airport for flight to Saigon. Arrival at the airport, welcome by your guide and your driver, transfer to the hotel.

 

Day visit to the largest city in Vietnam, named "Pearl of the Far East". Departure for the old quarters of Cholon, the Vietnamese "Chinatown".

You will discover its old neighborhoods, its Binh Tay market - a large tiled roofed ocher building designed by a French architect and funded by a wealthy Chinese merchant, the Hai Thuong Lan Ong street specializing in the Chinese pharmacopoeia, the Thien Hau temple dedicated to the goddess of the sea, the museum of traditional medicine Fito ... Return by car to Saigon. On the way, you will stop in a lacquer factory.

 

You will take the time to visit the colonial district: the Notre-Dame Cathedral and its red brick silhouette rising on the Place de la Commune in Paris, the Central Post office evoking the architecture of a station - in particular by its splendid frame vaulted metal designed by Gustave Eiffel, Ben Thanh market, one of the most interesting and lively in the city. After breakfast, you will leave the busy life of Saigon to descend into the Mekong Delta, the third largest river in Asia. You will cross rice fields as far as the eye can see. Arrival in Cai Be, discovery of the Mekong on a local boat and visit of a manufacture of rice cakes. At noon, embark on the Bassac near the floating market of Cai Be. Welcome drink, presentation of the boat and the crew, installation in the cabins. Departure to Cho Lach, downstream on the Tien Giang River. Lunch on board. Bifurcation in the Cho Lach canal to navigate the rice and sand barges, in a setting of fruit dryers and shipyard for wooden boats. Visit a village on the bank of the Mang Thit River, an opportunity to approach the way of life and hospitality of the inhabitants of the region. Visit the orchards or rice fields nearby. Breakfast during the crossing of the floating market of Tra On, then departure to Can Tho. Arrival at the Cai Rang Floating Market, transfer to a lighter boat for a visit to the market, arroyos and orchards, then return to Ninh Kieu wharf. Return to Saigon by car, arriving in the middle of the afternoon. You will have free time to make last purchases. Transfer by your driver to Saigon airport for flight to Paris.
