The Three Great Pagodas Of Northern Vietnam

The Three Great Pagodas Of Northern Vietnam

Nowadays, spiritual tourism is becoming an increasingly essential part of our lives. To meet the growing demands of both domestic and international tourists, many new spiritual destinations have been created based on ancient foundations.

Bai Dinh Pagoda

Located 100 km south of Hanoi, this Buddhist temple complex is the most famous in Vietnam. With an area of nearly 107 hectares, facing Dâm Thi Lake and Hoang Long River, it occupies an ideal position according to geomantic rules, representing the center of Buddhism from the past to the present. Additionally, Bai Dinh holds many records, and you will be overwhelmed by the enormity of the pagodas, statues, and temples. To date, this complex has 8 records, including the largest arhat corridor in Vietnam, with statues that are 2-2.5 meters tall and weigh 2-2.5 tons, each with a unique shape and expression. The Chuong Bell Tower is the largest in Vietnam, housing a 36-ton bronze bell. It also features the tallest and heaviest statue of Shakyamuni in Asia, along with the three largest copper Buddhas (representing the past, present, and future). Furthermore, you can explore the Trang An landscape complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Parfume Pagoda

Visiting the Perfume Pagoda is one of the beautiful cultural beliefs of the Vietnamese people. Every spring, the Perfume Pagoda Festival takes place from the sixth day of the Lunar New Year to the end of the third lunar month, attracting thousands of tourists every day. It is not only a complex of Buddhist temples and pagodas but also a poetic and majestic landscape. You will be immersed in the festive atmosphere while cruising along the dreamy Yen Stream. After the Tết (Lunar New Year), this is the ideal time for travel, offering a chance to explore this hidden land and experience something new.

Tam Chuc Pagoda

To enhance regional integration, the Ha Nam People's Committee has planned infrastructure to link Tam Chuc Pagoda with Bai Dinh Pagoda and the Perfume Pagoda, forming a "golden triangle" of Vietnam’s first spiritual and ecological tourism zone. Tam Chuc Pagoda is surrounded by a karst mountain landscape, earning it the nickname "the terrestrial Ha Long Bay." With an area of nearly 5000 hectares (the largest area in the world), the front of Tam Chuc Pagoda features a vast natural freshwater lake. In the middle of the lake, six small mountains rise, creating spectacular formations. Behind the pagoda, there are seven more mountains. The pagoda complex includes the Ngoc Pagoda (Pearl Pagoda), Tam The Temple, Giao Chu Temple, Quan Am Temple, the Tam Quan Gate (the entrance gate with three arches), and the International Convention Hall. There are 12,000 murals depicting Buddha legends, created by Indonesian artisans, and a garden with 99 stone pillars, each 13.5 meters tall, sculpted with Buddhist teachings. Additionally, the grand Buddha Day 2019 (Vesak) was successfully held here, bringing together more than 10,000 participants. With its majestic natural beauty, favorable geographical location, and a development plan extending to 2050, Tam Chuc is poised to become one of the must-visit places for tourists.
